Fishing Our Region
Cooby - It's been a rather successful week on cooby with anglers getting some fantastic weather to hit our local lake, they have been sitting a little deeper to previous weeks, fishing hard to the bottom is a must. Out in front of the sailing club is holding good numbers of fish as well as the deeper edges up the Northern arm, Zx Blades and soft vibes have accounted for some great fishing, vertically jigging these lures has worked best. Trolling anglers have found it a little more difficult since the fish haven't been as active with the cool change. Both Saltwater Yabbies and Worms have proved to be the best bait, the bank fishermen have caught their fair share of Jew Fish and the Odd Yellow Belly, working the edges with minimal weed around the picnic area is a good place to start.
Cressbrook - The Yellow Belly have been in massive numbers and reacting well to Baits like saltwater yabbies and for the lure anglers, metal blades jigged vertically through the schools has had some very positive results. Targeting the prodminant points up the Cressbrook Creek arm has been best. The Bass anglers have found it quite tough catching the quality of fish but good numbers of smaller fish have been schooling up in the main basin, again blades and plastics worked through the water column has picked those fish up. Still some good reports of Red Claw coming in, this time of year they will move a little deeper so targeting deeper bays is a must.
Leslie - Leslie just keeps producing, the Yellas have still been on the chew even with the colder weather, adapting to the conditions is key, these fish have moved deeper to previous weeks, again you can't go past the ever faithful Zx blade it just simply gets them. working the isolated structure tight to the old creek bed is your best bet. Saltwater Yabbies proving why they are the best freshwater Bait in the game. A few keen anglers working daylight hours have picked up some nice Cod, Shallow running swimbaits and the Odd Larger Topwater baits have accounted for a few Giants.
Somerset - The big fish factory continue to prove why it's the Best Aussie Bass lake in Aus, anglers have been catching great numbers in a few different locations over the lake, as we get further into winter these fish will spread out and move further up the lake. Pelican Point remains the hot spot while Queen Street and the Kirkleigh flats are starting to gain a-lot of interest. As most know you don't head to this lake and throw a Spoon and right now is the perfect timing to do just that, a wide variety of spoons have been getting the bits, The ever faithful Palms Slow Blat and Palms slow blatt being the pic of the baits.
Wivenhoe - If you ever wanted to fish Wivenhoe now is the time, the edge fishing has been red hot if you can pick the right banks crankbaits like the Hide Up 150,300 and 400 have proved dominant for working those rockier edges, the flats out from billy's bay are starting to hold some impressive numbers of fish that are willing to eat, spoons, plastics and Blades have caught their fair share.
Glenlyon - Positive results this past week with a few Cold frosts moving those fish shallow, locating bait is key for finding those active fish, large points and shallow bays is where you should start, swimbaits like the Jackall Gantarel and Gigantarel are hard to go past. The Yellow Belly being the easiest option at the moment with good numbers schooling up on the standing timber, slow rolling Bverkley Gulp minnow grubs vertically tight to the trees has had great results as well has jigging blades like Ecogear ZX and Profishent Vixen Blade.
