Fishing Our Region

Cooby Dam - Some great fishing over the school holidays at our local lake and the good fishing continues and gets better each day after the recent rain. The bank fishermen have been getting great results as some of these fish move closer to the banks. Other fisherman getting god numbers of fish amongst the deeper water out from the sal club and edges of the creek bed up the northern arm. Jigging ZX Blades tight to the bottom has been very successful as well as jigging soft vibes. Casting Jackall TN60's to the edges has also seen plenty of fish caught during the cooler parts of the day. Next week we should see these fish move even deeper with the temperature rise so keep that in mind for your next trip.

Cressbrook Dam - Cressbrook has been fishing quite well regarding Yellow Belly, the Bass have been hard to find, the larger lake points with the fish attractant devices have been holding some great fish. Vertical fishing Blades and Gulp minnow grubs have been popular.

Leslie Dam - By far still one of the most consistent Lakes around us and it continued to fish very well throughout the holidays. Plenty of fish caught on vast amount of techniques, bait fishing with saltwater yabbies and live worms has been effective as well as jigging blades and smaller soft vibes, the fish have concentrated around structure around the dam wall area and the edges of the creek bed at the mouth of sandy creek.

Somerset Dam - The busy times are just about over and fish really know when to shut down when the water traffic is at its busiest. Pelican Point and the flats in front of Kirkliegh are holding the numbers of fish, deep crankbaits have been working particularly well and also spoons up to 30 grams. For the crankbait side of things it's hard to go past two of the most popular ones being the Imakatsu IK800 and Hide Up 40 both will get down to 20 plus feet which is where the fish are sitting at the current time.

Coolmunda Dam - A little slower these past few weeks with the warmer weather really making the difference. With this lake getting quite low the water temperature is really shutting these fish down. The Deepest part of the timber and edges of the creek bed will be your best bet, casting larger spinnerbaits and Jackall TN60's and TN70's working well. Jigging blades tight to structure is going to be your best bet to get these shut down fish to bite.

Lake Awoonga - Definitely on the improve with the lake getting some rain and dirtying up the water which is what this lake really needed to get these fish to come out of the weed, popular lures like the Zerek live mullet and Molix 140 have been the go to lures. With these warm northley winds there has been plenty of fish around Gold Mine Point and around that section of the lake. The evening and moon rise has been the pick of the bite times.

Lake Monduran - Once called Lake Misery this large Impoundment has been fishing unbelievably well and you don't need to travel far from the ramp. Lots of moving fish around the dam wall area, you just have to be in the right spot at the right time or be willing to move to keep on top of these fish, this is where live scope really comes into its own. The trusty Zerek Live Mullet and Irukandji sicario 7inch has been the go to lures. Running a heavy jig head is key to keep your lure in the strike zone for as long as you can. Trolling this same area has been very dominant. Further up the lake around Bass straight has also seen good numbers of fish locating these suspended fish in the tops of trees.
