Fishing Our Region

Cooby Dam - Cooby has fished a little tougher the past weeks after the recent raint especially for the lure anglers. The Yellow Belly are still adapting with the rise in water level; this may take a few more weeks to settle down. The majority of the fish are holding deep on the edges of creek beds as well as the hump is still holding good numbers. ZX Blades and other shrimp imitation blades have been working well on these shut down fish. The Bait fisherman have been having the most success with either live shrimp or Saltwater yabbies. Big Numbers of Jew fish have still been caught, Live worms are the best for targeting these. Trolling the edges and covering ground will be your best bet if you want to catch on lures.

Cressbrook Dam - Another tough week on our local lake, the Bass have struggled these past few months as the water level drops because of the upgrades to the dam wall. In saying that, still reasonable numbers of Yellow Belly have been schooled up on the fish attractant devices. The boat ramp has signs with the coordinates of where these are located.

Leslie Dam - By far the most consistent fishery close to home. With the recent rise in water level there has been a lot of anglers taking advantage with them catching fish close to the edges and even off the bank casting lures, TN60's and spinnerbaits proving successful. As for other anglers trolling the structure edges has been effective with either Jackalls' and small hardbodies. The cod have still been on the move and willing to eat a bait or lures. Targeting the edges of the creek bed has been the standout. Bait fisherman having lost of success with saltwater yabbies and shrimp around the washpool area.

Moogerah Dam - Moogerah has fished very good after the recent rain, with fish scattered throughout the timber and along the flats before the 6 knot zone, Hot Bite spectres and Jackall Tn60 fished tight to the trees has caught a lot of fish and great quality at that. During the low lighter periods of the day working some of the newly formed weed banks with TN60's and suspending Jerkbaits has also produced fish.

Monduran Dam - Another exceptional week on the lake if you're keen to put the work in. These last few weeks we are hearing a lot of fish moving back up the lake and into creek channels of South and North B, these fish have been located tight in the timber but still in deep water just suspended in around 12-17ft. Popular lures have been the old faithful Zerek Live Mullet, Irukandji Sicario along with a lot of other popular soft swimbaits. Jerkbaits have been popular again like the Samaki Redic DS80 and Jackall Super Squirrel 115.

Awoonga Dam - Awoonga is well and truely on the come back after quite a few months of tough fishing, a few reports of fish sitting very shallow inside the larger bays, The topwater bite has been red hot, fishing fast frogs or walking stickbaits has worked well if you find the right areas. The start of the boyne river is worth a look during low light periods. During the night the Points have started to fire with plenty of quality, again its hard to go past proven baits like the molix 140 and zerek Live mullet.
