Lure Of The Week - Jackall Mega Pompadour

The Mega Pompadour is the bigger brother to the massively popular Pompadour. The larger body profile and larger winds allows this topwater lure to throw some massive wake and surface disturbance. This action calls in predators over a large distance making this lure suitable for dams and river applications. The combination of metal wings, larger internal ball bearings and glass beads this lure produces a unique sound many fish haven’t heard before

Built tough the Mega Pompadour is designed for mega Murray Cod. The Mega Pompadour has a magnetic weight casting system inside which allows the lure to be cast longer distances and more accurately

Fishing Our Region

Cooby Dam - Lake Cooby remains CLOSED for all boating and fishing activities due to Cylindrospermopsin levels exceeding the recreational water guidelines. Each week water is tested to ensure it meets safety standards for recreational activity (direct contact without water treatment). Cylindrospermopsin toxins are currently greater than 0.6 g/L and this needs to be under 0.5. Initially, Enterococci levels caused the closure of this dam, but the bacteria levels have reduced in recent weeks.

Cressbrook Dam - Lake Cressbrook remains CLOSED for all boating and fishing activities due to Cylindrospermopsin levels exceeding the recreational water guidelines. Each week water is tested to ensure it meets safety standards for recreational activity (direct contact without water treatment). Cylindrospermopsin toxins are currently at 0.7 g/L and this needs to be under 0.5. While the toxins have reduced in recent weeks, the warm weather in the last couple of days has caused further delay in opening. We're hopeful the toxin level will improve in the near future.

Leslie Dam - The reports are few and far between, but promising signs this week as anglers did land some nice fish, the bank fisherman have proved you don't need a boat to land fish. The late afternoon bite has been successful as the temperature drops, 2 large cod were also curing during the weekend, 1 measuring well over the magic meter mark, the anglers with a lot patience and being consistent have gotten the bites, fishing large swimbaits or Chatterbaits has been the go too, targeting sunken structure off the edge of the creek bed has been the best bet.

Somerset Dam - Reports stay the same to previous weeks, the quality of fish has dropped but good amounts of fish have been caught, the southern side of pelican point is holding good numbers, while the Kirkliegh and Queen street flats have still been worth a check. Soft plastics like the ever faithful slider grubs have been the consistent catches along with the Hot Bite Spectre, keeping these baits tight to the bottom is a must when targeting these summer time schooled fish. The trolling anglers have smashed it again this week, The Little ripper lures or Smak hard body range has worked well.

Lake Boondooma - Boondooma has fished well during the previous weeks and still continues to do so, this lake has been so consistent with great fish catches. From a great edge bite with topwater action, as well as deep schooled fish in the main basin, targeting these fish with Spoons and Soft Plastics. The trollers are having good success targeting the steeper rock walls with TN60's and shallow hardbodies.

Lake Monduran - Its been all about the trolling these past few weeks, we are seeing some amazing numbers of fish being caught from a lot of anglers, Lake Monduran is well and truly back to its former Glory for the trolling fisherman, with that being said there has been good success this week on the shallower points casting plastics and suspending hardbodies like the Jackall Squirrel 79 and 115 as the weather begins to cool we see should see this bite technique increase with fish catches. Trolling the edge of the creek bed along the tree line has worked well in the deeper bays has been extremely productive.

Gold Coast Broadwater & Offshore - A lot of local anglers taking advantage of the great weather at the moment, The Seaway has fished well after the recent rains as the water cleans up, as winter isn't far away we will see some great snapper and bream schooled up in this area.  The Offshore fisherman have worked hard over the past few months with little return but its definitely on the turn, good numbers of Spanish Mackerel and Mac/Longtail Tuna have been on the move, searching for birds out from Mermaid beach has been the go too area.
