Fishing Our Region
Cooby Dam - Unfortunately at this stage closed to all water based activities. Current testing guidelines are in review and the lake will open at the end of march and have less strict guidelines which will mean open a lot more going forward.
Cressbrook - With Cressbrook being open over the past few weeks there's been some good reports coming in, the recent rain the lake now being 100% and still spilling due to excess water. Over the past couple of days we have seen the grass and structure close to the banks starting to rot, unfortunately this can make the edge fishing that little bit tricky. Once the water settles we'll be on for some great fishing. Casting reaction style baits have had success, Lipless Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits being the go too. Suspending Hardbodies like the Jackall Squirrel 79, Rapala Jack deeps above the flooded weed can be deadly.
Leslie - Leslie has produced some amazing numbers of fish of late and it continues even with the not so nice weather. Local anglers have been racking up the numbers, Zx Blades and soft vibes have been dynamite of late, jigging these baits tight on the bottom is key 15-20ft of water is where all the action has been. Also trolling the edge of the creek bed have also seen good numbers of fish. For the bait fisherman Saltwater Yabbies and Live worms have been the best option.
Maroon - With the recent rain we have seen this clake lean up in water quality and it has really fired up the fish. The edge fishing has seen big numbers being caught during the low light periods of the day. Small Suspending hardbodies has always been the shining light on this lake with its great water visibility. Also great reports of some great top water action if you're eager for an early morning fish. During the day as the fish school up amongst the deeper water, Spinnerbaits and Hot Bite spectres have been the go too.
Monduran - Another reasonable week on our closest Barra Impoundment, North B and the South B arms are holding good numbers of fish on the very shallow banks, these fish are holding tight to cover during the day so casting lighter weighted plastics into the flooded banks have been effective, while during the night time the Barra become active and feed on the larger bait source like boney bream on open wind blown points, casting lures like the molix 140 and Squidgy Slick slick rig has performed yet again. The main basin is still holding good numbers, trolling tree lines, submerged islands and deeper rock walls has been the standout for this technique.
