Fishing Report 27th Sep 2018 Still Great Fishing Perfect Time to take the Kids for a Flic

Sarah Schneider with great example of a Cressbrook Bass.

Lure of the week

Lucky Craft Pointer

Available in 100mm and 78mm, the suspending DD Pointer dives to the 6-7 foot zone and has a large body which produces a unique action when strongly jerked. The number one ‘power’ bait in the Lucky Craft family. The DD pointer will still produce a ‘walk the dog’ action underwater with a twitching retrieve and suspend in the strike zone to tempt shut down fish or pressured fish. The Lucky Craft Pointer has been designed with a very low center of gravity through the use of special brass weights. The low center of balance causes the lure to wobble and vibrate whenever the retrieving motion is stopped.

Cooby Dam

Great results this past week at Cooby with Yellow Belly and the odd undersized cod both being caught, trolling still seems to be the standout. Trolling shallow hardbodies or Lipless Crankbaits above the weed edge has worked very well, the fish are still concentrated up the northern arm of the dam. Zx blades and Mask vibes still being the stand out lure for the deep vertical bite.

Cressbrook Dam

An awesome week the anglers have had at Cressbrook, multiple reports of big bass being caught over 50cm. The main lake points out from the boat ramp are holding great numbers of fish, Targeting these fish with plastics or spoons have been the pick of the lures, some reasonable yellow belly has also been caught vertical jigging little max blades tight to the bottom out from the eagle’s nest.

Somerset Dam

With boat pressure and the weather not being on our side, the fish have been a little quieter this week, Spoons and plastics still the stand out bait, Kirkliegh Flats, red rock and wide off Beams Creek are holding good numbers of fish, the trolling anglers have had good success again this week, keeping your lure tight to the bottom is key to getting a reaction from the fish.

Wivenhoe Dam

Definitely the pick of our local dam at the moment with a lot of anglers catching massive numbers of fish, the flats of Platypus Cliffs and Billy’s Bay is a good place to start searching, trolling can be a great way to locate fish in this dam due to its size, keeping your lure on the edge of the creek bed should see you land some great fish. Other anglers have had have great results fishing these same areas casting Spoons and Soft Vibes.

Coolmunda Dam

A few cod have been caught this past week, working the deeper parts of the creek bed and the timberline have seen some active fish taking a liking to trolled hardbodies, the casting anglers have some success fishing Spinnerbaits tight to the submerged timber. With the water levels staying consistent has been quite the improvement in water clarity, the yellow belly shouldn’t be far off biting well with the water temperature heating up, jigging blades and soft vibes has accounted for some good fish as well.

Moreton Bay

Still great reports of some nice snapper getting caught off mud island, soft plastics fish tight to the bottom and lightly weighted pilchards have worked well. A few Long Tail Tuna have shown up since the water temperature begins to rise, the channel markers are holding reasonable numbers of King fish and Cobia, live bait will be your best option for these pressured fish.
