Fishing Report 24th May 2018

Lure of the week

Kneller Lure ” Church Mouse 65 “

This lure is the perfect all-round bait, weather you are fishing small creeks for Australian bass or Murray cod in the rivers, with its large waking action crawling its way along the top.

Cooby dam

Some god shows of yellow belly this past week, fishing in the deeper water towards the buoy line, jigging ZX40’s and soft Jackall’s have been working really well. A lot of anglers have had great success off the bank using saltwater yabbies and live worms.

Somerset dam

A very tough week at Somerset, with fish very spread out, fishing close to the bottom is where you will have the most success, ice jigs and blades have been the lure of choice with spoons and tail spinners still catching as well.

Wivenhoe dam

A total opposite to Somerset this week with great reports of big bass getting caught off the edges all throughout the day, casting lipless crank baits and Jerkbaits have been the go too lures. Fishing shallower banks with deeper weed should see you land good fish.

Moogerah Dam

The pick of the SEQ Dams at the moment with some big bass getting caught, fishing the 25 foot flats inside the timber line has had some good shows of fish, casting spoons ½ plastics tight to the bottom has been the pick of the techniques.

Glenlyon Dam

Starting to see a few more cod getting pulled from Glenlyon this week with the weather really cooling down, the bite period has definitely been early mornings with top water and swimbaits, during the day trolling the creek bed coming off points in the main basin has seen good action as well, for the yellow belly anglers fishing tight too structure with ZX40’s and soft vibes will get you a bag limit.

Copeton dam

If your willing to put in big hours and finding the right banks or areas you will be gifted with some great fish, Very similar reports this week, fish that early morning bite with top water and swimbaits will be your best bet, large Mumblers have also captured some giant fish fishing steeper rock banks.

Northern Moreton bay

Still some great long tail tuna getting around if your patient enough to chase them around, some good shows of squire around Tangalooma, live bait and soft vibes will be your best bet. Curtain artificial reef holding some great fish including cod, trevally, snapper and the odd king fish live yakka’s should get you a limit. Heading offshore from Moreton island has seen some great pearl perch and parrot fish being caught.

Tip of the week
