Over the coming weeks months we want to start sharing some of the many great free, cheap camping/fishing areas in our region and slightly beyond. So if you are from out of town and are looking for a place to take the kids, or a Grey Nomad traveling Australia or just want to give camping fishing a go. Stay tuned to our site for regular updates.
The first place I would like to share is Bowenville Reserve
At only 57km west of Toowoomba on the Warrego Hwy, Heading towards Oakey, Keep going past the Oakey turn off signs, Past Jondaryan another 6kms, You will see the signs for the small village of Bowenville. On the left hand side of the hwy take Bowenville-Norwin Rd at Bowenville and follow out several Km’s to the campsite. Bitumen road all the way.
This pet family friendly reserve is a free camping area with kids play area, toilets and plenty of space for the kids to run around or for you to park your van/motor home along the water. What better way to spend a few days laying back and enjoying the bird life as the sun comes up. You can swim at this reserve, as well as a great accessible areas for kayaks, canoes.
The Creek is a contributory of the Condamine river that is stocked with plenty of Yellow Belly, Murray Cod, Eel tail Catfish. Over the years the whole system has been restructured to help with the breeding of the native fish as well as local stocking groups adding new fingerlings all along the Condamine system. So make sure you take you fishing gear and enjoy. Don’t forget you will need a Qld stock impoundment permit available at Australia Post or Online. Shrimp traps are allowed and some of the best bait has to be live worms and frozen saltwater yabbies, all available at Fish N Bits. If you are not sure how to get there, drop us a line or pop in and we will show you the best ways to get there.
