Fishing report 18/05/17

Alphonse De Graaf with a great bass picked up at Cressbrook recently.

Leslie dam

This past week at Leslie has still seen some great results coming in, many anglers catching a heap of yellow belly, the size of the fish have been on the small side but if you stick to it there is some big fish there as well, best baits have been saltwater yabbies and bloodworms, For the lure angler jigging zx40’s have been the best way.

Copeton dam

The focus is still set on Copeton and will be still in the next few months, with this colder weather upon us, surface and shallow swimbaits like the Jackall Gantarel have been the pic of the lures. Casting these lures to shallower banks between 3 and 6 foot has been the best way to get yourself a fish of a life time.

Cressbrook still seems to be the pic of the dams locally this week, with multiple reports of big bass biting. The points in the main basin have been holding quite the amount of fish, so have the Cressbrook creek arm and the Bull creek arm, casting blades or soft plastics have been getting most of the fish.

Cooby dam

Cooby this week has been fishing reasonably well, with this cold weather settling in the yellas have been making the most of the last of the warmer water. Fishing the deeper rock walls up towards the buoy line has been the most successful spot, saltwater yabbies have been the pick of the baits also the odd angler trolling up towards the northern arm.

Somerset dam

The fishing has been a bit tough this last week on Somerset, the southern part of pelican point has been the pick of the spots. Most of the fish have pushed up reasonable shallow with this colder weather, hoping or dead slow rolling blades or plastics seems to be getting most of the bites, this time of year is always worth giving a edge a crack. Casting lipless crankbaits or spinnerbaits to the rockier banks may see u land a few good fish.

This time of the year at the pin always bring out the big flathead, the most common way to target flathead is by casting soft plastics or hard bodies to the banks or sand flats. Pick of the spots would have to be short island and kallinga bank, also always worth giving inside the bar a fish, Jew fish have been in good numbers, live baits and heavier soft vibes with be your best bet.
